Macon man indicted on murder charge after accomplice fatally shot

A 22-year-old Macon man has been indicted on charges of fatally shooting his accomplice in an August robbery.

Reshaud Jamal Maxwell, is charged with murder, aggravated assault and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, according to Bibb County Superior Court records.

Maxwell allegedly shot 23-year-old Jermaine Santrell Pitts while the two were robbing a man in a wooded area near Capital Avenue and Burke Street on Aug. 11, prosecutor Nancy Scott Malcor said.

Malcor said Maxwell shot at the man they were trying to rob, but the bullet hit Pitts who was standing in front of him.

Pitts, of Alfred Drive, was able to run back to Capital Avenue before he collapsed and died, she said.

Maxwell, of Charlotte Street, turned himself in at the Macon Police Department’s detective bureau in the days following the incident.

He is being held at the Bibb County jail, according to jail records.
