A Waynesboro woman was killed Monday night while walking along Gray Highway in Jones County.

Danielle Hightower, 26, was hit in front of the Greenwood Baptist Church about five miles east of Macon at about 8:20 p.m. Monday, said Capt. Billy Mitchell of the Jones County Sheriff's Office.

Investigators are trying to determine whether Hightower was in the road or walking along the southbound lanes when she was hit by April Quick of Jefferson, who was traveling south in a GMC Jimmy, Mitchell said.

Quick then crossed over into the northbound lanes and hit John McQuain head-on in his Mazda pickup. McQuain suffered minor injuries but Quick was not hurt in the accident, Mitchell said.

The Jones County Sheriff's Office is investigating the accident.
