ATLANTA -- Heavy rain overnight caused several metro Atlanta area creeks to flood.

Forecasters on Wednesday reported "moderate" flooding along the Chattahoochee River near Vinings and along Nancy Creek near West Wesley Road.

Rain is expected to ease Wednesday.

Rainfall totals through 4 a.m. included 4.38 inches at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport. Atlanta's official rainfall total for Tuesday of 4.05 inches set a new record for the date, eclipsing the old record of 2.57 inches set in 1966.

Most of north and central Georgia, including all of metro Atlanta, remained under a flash flood watch through 7 a.m. Wednesday.
