WARNER ROBINS — A steady stream of voters turned out Tuesday for the elections.
Earl Lockhart, a poll worker located at Northside High School Tuesday who has been working county and city election for 14 years, said “it kind of reminded me of the presidential election.”
By early afternoon, more than 500 voters had turned out at Northside, while the Houston County Annex and Second Baptist Church poll locations each had turnouts of about 300.
Lockhart said “we had a great turnout here [at Northside High School] today.”
He said that his precinct and the annex were the biggest.
The Houston County Annex saw nearly 20 people waiting outside before polls opened at 7 a.m. according to poll worker Mat Gutierrez.
Gutierrez has almost three decades of experience working on Election Day. His thought was that a lot of people had interests in the mayoral race.
There were a lot of volunteers for the candidates as well. Helpers set up day shades and held up signs. A number of trucks were streetside with candidate’s signs in the beds.
Grace Harmon, who also was at the Houston County Annex, said people arrived at 6:30 a.m. and read their newspapers before they voted.
“We really had great turnout,” Harmon said.
Voter Tieman Slaugh said there were “no hiccups and no wait” at the Houston County Annex.
A few people were confused about where to vote and were busy looking at maps. At Second Baptist Church, Gene Moore said there were only a few who didn’t know where they were supposed to go.
Guitierrez said people thought that they were supposed to go to the same place for national elections as they were for city elections.
The poll locations in Warner Robins were Miller Elementary School, Second Baptist Church, the Houston County Annex, Northside High School and Houston Mall.
The foot traffic through the polling sites was slow and steady, said more than one poll worker.
