Three midstate men have been jailed in connection with the slaying of an Upson County couple.

Michael and Dorothy Walker, who lived in the Salem community about 12 miles west of Roberta, are thought to have been killed before daybreak Thursday and then left to burn after their house was set on fire.

The Walkers, said to be in their 50s and residents of 162 Parkview Road, just south of U.S. 80, knew their killers, said Upson sheriff’s Capt. William Hosley.

The investigator wouldn’t say what led authorities to the three suspects who face murder charges — Octavious Hart, 32, of Roberta; Jeremy Saffold, 29, of Byron and Ronald Hart, 21, of Musella – but noted robbery may have been a motive.

The couple’s car reportedly turned up in Crawford County later Thursday. The fire at the Walker residence was reported just after 5 a.m.

Sheriff’s investigators found blood outside of the house leading authorities to suspect foul play.
