Dodge 2-year-old dead after mom accidentally backs over him with vehicle

A Dodge County woman accidentally backed over her 2-year-old son with her car Wednesday, leading to injuries that caused the boy’s death.

Trooper First Class Kevin Sykes of the Georgia State Patrol’s Helena office said Christy Dains was pulling out of the driveway about 8:24 p.m. Wednesday. At the time, Sykes said she told him that her son, Wyatt, was sitting in his grandmother’s lap in the house.

Sykes said the boy apparently ran out behind Dains, who didn’t see him come out, and was playing in the driveway when the car backed up.

Wyatt Dains sustained head trauma and was initially transported to Dodge County Hospital. He was later transported to The Medical Center of Central Georgia, where he died Thursday afternoon.

Sykes said no charges would be filed against Christy Dains.
