Swine flu has hit the midstate.

The director of the North Central Health District said several cases have been reported but details will not be released until a news conference at 10 a.m. Friday with Macon Bibb Emergency Management Agency director Johnny Wingers at the Macon-Bibb Emergency Operations Center.

“It’s not panic time. This is information time,” said Dr. Dave Harvey. “It’s just spreading everywhere so we expected some sooner or later.”

Harvey would not specify where cases of the H1N1 have shown up but his district covers Baldwin, Bibb, Crawford, Hancock, Houston, Jasper, Jones, Monroe, Peach, Putnam, Twiggs, Washington and Wilkinson counties.

Frequent hand washing can reduce the spread of the virus.
