The man accused of using rubbing alcohol to burn a 47-year-old woman Friday gave officers a false name, according to Macon police.

Capt. Jimmy Barbee said 30-year-old Brian Keith Patterson told officers he was 32-year-old Wardell Patterson, who is his brother.

Patterson was charged with giving false information to officers on Monday, Barbee said.

He also faces charges of criminal attempt to commit murder and arson in connection with allegations that he burned the woman, who is identified as Angela Simmons, at 2418 Mason St. Police say she suffered third-degree burns on 60 percent of her body.

Simmons is listed in critical condition at Joseph M. Still Burn Center at Doctors Hospital in Augusta, according to a hospital spokeswoman.

Patterson was arrested Saturday after being released from Doctors Hospital after burning his hands Friday morning. He has not yet been transferred to the Bibb County jail, according to jail records.

Information from The Telegraph’s archives was included in this report.
