Arrest warrants issued Friday for a man accused of severely burning a woman on Mason Street show the man is accused of “knowingly and willingly” using rubbing alcohol as a weapon to set the woman on fire.

Wardell Patterson, 32, is charged with criminal attempt to commit murder and first-degree arson, according to the warrants.

He was arrested Saturday after being discharged from Doctor’s Hospital in Augusta after burning his hands early Friday morning. He has not yet been transferred to the Bibb County jail, according to jail records.

Angela Simmons, 47, was listed in critical condition at Joseph M Still Burn Center at Doctors Hospital tonight, according to a hospital spokeswoman.

Simmons suffered third-degree burns on 60 percent of her body in the assault, according to authorities.

Information from The Telegraph’s Archives was included in this report.
