What am I doing at this restaurant on Ga. 96 off Interstate 75? It’s called Creekside Catfish. Plates of catfish are piled on tables. Catfish bones are scattered across my table.

I don’t eat catfish.

But, by Neptune’s beard, my wife and parents adore catfish.

So I’m eating catfish at Creekside Catfish.

Creekside has an all-you-can-eat catfish option. My parents told me this as soon as I mentioned that Creekside was one of the restaurants I might review.

They told me that just before they told me that I, as their loving and loyal son, should certainly review Creekside Catfish. And that I’d better not do it without them. They’d been to Creekside before. And before. And before. And before. And before.

My parents love catish like cats love fish. And they especially love Creekside Catfish.

My wife had never been to Creekside. But if one of my review choices included a catfish place, it would be a good choice, she purred — licking her lips.

So I’m eating the catfish filet platter at Creekside (catfish bones scare me). It tastes OK to me, but my family of catfish experts assures me that it’s great catfish. So, take their word for it.

I do know that it’s a hefty portion of filets. I could only finish two of the three pieces. The platters also come with side choices such as french fries or baked potato. And, when you come in, they give you a free bowl of some terrific cole slaw. So it’s quite a meal for less than $10.

The all-you-can-eat catfish is $13.95. But get this: When the waitress noticed that my dad, despite his big talk, wasn’t going to get past the first three pieces, she changed his order from the all-you-can-eat to the $8.99 platter.

Now, I may not know catfish, but I know good Southern-folk service, and it don’t get better than that.

My wife’s friend Kim Ayer and her rascally daughter Kaitlyn met us there. They’re big Creekside fans, too. And just to show it’s not all catfish at Creekside, they had shrimp and crabcakes, which they said were up to par with the catfish.

It was a real fun time. The place is way laid back. We took pictures, suffered Kaitlyn’s jabs, joked with the couple sitting next to us and kept the good-humored, helpful staff hopping. It was like a picnic.
