The Central Georgia Greek Festival returns to Macon for the second year this weekend, bringing with it live music, dancing, sales of religious artifacts and jewelry, and of course homemade Greek meals made by members of the Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Church that will make you want to shout “Opa!”
Festival chairman Mike Cantrell said a professional dance troupe from Marietta will perform Saturday, while a local dance troupe will perform throughout the weekend.
The menu will include plenty of traditional Greek or Mediterranean food, from pastichio and gyros to Souvlaki and the Opa Dinner Platter, which features a sampling of everything. Beer, wine and soft drinks also will be for sale.
Guests will need to purchase tickets in order to shop for their food, and Cantrell said that unlike last year, guests will be able to use credit cards to buy tickets.
Funds raised will help the church continue with repairs to its building, which was originally built in the late 19th century and needs updated roofing, plumbing and electrical work.
